Federal grant changes/updates:

Like our nonprofit partners, we’ve been holding our breath waiting for announcements about the federal grant landscape. While the courts are reviewing cases, Resurgens Impact Consulting has been talking to our clients and peers about how to adapt and forecast further changes. Here are some of the things we learned and recommendations that you can consider:

💪 One of our clients, The Study Hall, is an excellent case study of how to rise to the challenge and be proactive. They’ve done scenario planning with their board; called their donors, funders, and partners to discuss their plans; and contacted their elected officials.

🤝 We’ve heard from other clients who have offered to partner with other organizations in their space to educate groups of funders about how the federal changes will impact refugee and immigrant funders. Regardless of what you do, be proactive, not reactive.

🔬 Data is power! Check out this impact map https://theimpactproject.org/ to see how the federal changes are affecting your state and community.

📖 Stay abreast of which grants are still down at List of Withdrawn Federal Funding Opportunities

🎙️ Contact your elected officials at the federal, state, and local levels. Remember that while the changes are happening at the federal level, we’ll feel it locally. See below for some templates we sent in February. And if you’ve already contacted them, follow up and give them an update!

Tidbits on Forming Partnerships

Our President & CEO, Betty Barnard, recently attended a meeting of the Atlanta Association of Fundraising Professionals, where a panel of four inspiring women led breakout groups on some timely, salient issues that nonprofit fundraisers grapple with. Betty sat in on the group led by Carley Stephens at Gas South, who shared some helpful takeaways on forming partnerships with companies and foundations:

Be annoyingly persistent (but polite!)

The executives you want to reach don’t have a lot of time, so be clear and concise

Behind the scenes, partnerships are key. The days of cold applications yielding grants are long gone.

Be top of mind – keep a strong, consistent online presence (see our Office Hours registration below!)

Think small and niche about corporate partnerships and go deep. A few meaningful relationships are better than a lot of shallow ones and yield higher ROI.

Help HR tell a story about corporate impact on talent. Find out what they’re trying to do and help them achieve it through your nonprofit partnership.

Resurgens Impact Consulting can help you tailor these strategies to ideal partners for your nonprofit. Just ask your Grant Consultant or fill out the Work With Us form below if you aren’t a current client!
